Therapy Areas

Built for the prescriptions that come with an asterisk.

"Specialty" means high-cost, hard-to-source, or high-touch. Usually all three. This is the work our pharmacy was organized around.

01

Dermatology

Systemic acne therapies and their monitoring programs, biologics for psoriasis and eczema, complex topicals, and compounded adjuncts — coordinated directly with your dermatologist. Our dermatology program →
02

Autoimmune & Rheumatology

Biologics and immunomodulators with cold-chain handling, injection training, and side-effect check-ins between office visits.
03

Endocrinology & Metabolic

GLP-1 therapies, growth hormone, and thyroid medications — including sourcing during national shortages and manufacturer program enrollment.
04

Gastroenterology

IBD biologics and specialty therapies with prior-authorization management and infusion-alternative coordination.

How Specialty Works At Sophia's

A process designed so you never learn
how complicated it actually is.

Specialty pharmacy is a maze of benefits investigations, distribution restrictions, and paperwork. Our job is for you to see none of it.

01 — Receipt

Your prescription arrives

E-prescribed or faxed from your physician, or transferred from the pharmacy that couldn't fill it. A PharmD reviews it within the hour.

02 — Access

Benefits & prior auth, same day

We run your insurance benefits investigation and initiate any prior authorization the same day — before you even know one was required.

03 — Sourcing

Located through our network

Wholesalers, limited-distribution channels, and manufacturer programs — typically sourced within 48 hours, with an honest timeline if longer.

04 — Care

Delivered, then supported

Cold-chain delivery to your door, injection training if needed, refill synchronization, and a pharmacist who checks in — by name.

When You've Been Told No

"Denied" is where our work begins.

Most specialty prescriptions hit an obstacle: a denial, a formulary exclusion, a price that makes no sense. These are solvable problems — they simply require someone whose job is solving them. That's us, not you.

The access toolkit we run for every patient
  • Prior authorizations — initiated, tracked, and escalated by our team
  • Appeals and formulary exceptions, prepared with your physician
  • Manufacturer copay programs and bridge supplies
  • Foundation and grant assistance for qualifying therapies
  • Clinically appropriate alternatives, proposed to your prescriber

The Dermatology Program

The pharmacy South Florida
dermatologists route around problems with.

Dermatology prescriptions fail at retail pharmacies constantly — monitoring-program paperwork stalls, complex topicals get substituted, patients give up. Our dermatology desk exists so that never happens to your patients, or to you.

  • 01 Systemic acne therapy monitoring programs handled start to finish — enrollment support, timing windows, zero missed fills
  • 02 Biologics for psoriasis and eczema with access-program coordination
  • 03 Complex and compounded topicals prepared to the prescriber's exact specification
  • 04 Prescription-adjacent skincare counseling, aligned with your treatment plan

Specialty FAQ

Asked by patients and prescribers alike.

What makes a medication a "specialty" medication?+

Specialty medications are typically high-cost therapies that require special handling (like refrigeration), special access (limited-distribution networks or manufacturer programs), insurance gatekeeping (prior authorization), or clinical monitoring. Biologics, injectables, oral oncology drugs, and many dermatologic therapies fall in this category — and most retail pharmacies aren't set up to manage them.

How fast can Sophia's source a specialty medication?+

Typically within 48 hours of resolving insurance approval, through our wholesaler and limited-distribution relationships. When a medication will take longer — a true national shortage, for instance — we tell you the honest timeline within 24 hours instead of leaving you waiting.

What happens if my insurance denies the medication?+

We treat a denial as the start of the process, not the end. Our team initiates the prior authorization or appeal with your physician, enrolls you in manufacturer copay or bridge programs where eligible, and pursues foundation assistance for qualifying therapies. You'll get a clear explanation of the path and the timeline — not a shrug.

My prescription was sent to a mail-order specialty pharmacy and it's stuck. Can you take over?+

Usually, yes. Many specialty prescriptions can be transferred, and where a plan requires a specific pharmacy we'll tell you honestly and help you navigate it. Start a transfer or call us — we'll find out within the day where you stand.

Do you handle refrigerated and injectable medications?+

Yes — cold-chain handling from receipt to your door, with validated packaging and temperature-controlled same-day delivery across our tri-county area. For self-injected therapies, a pharmacist provides private training with your first fill.

How do physicians send prescriptions to Sophia's?+

E-prescribe to Sophia's Pharmacy in Aventura, FL 33160, or fax new prescriptions and records to (305) 363-4680. Our clinical team confirms receipt to your office the same day, initiates any prior authorization, and reports status back to your staff at every stage.
